SHELL CLEAN UP IN NIGERIA A FIASCO

(Latest Nigeria News) Amnesty International say Shell oil spill investigations in Nigeria are “a fiasco” after Shell has repeatedly blamed militancy and oil theft for the widespread oil pollution and environmental damage across the Niger Delta.
“Basically Shell is a lawless company,” says Stevyn Obodoekwe, Director of Programmes at Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development (CEHRD).

See video of Shell oil spill at Bodo and full interview here:

The video shows repairs to the Bodo oil spill discovered in June, 2012 where Amnesty state:
“Experts have examined evidence from the latest oil spill from Shell’s poorly maintained pipelines in the Bodo creek area and confirmed that it strongly indicates that the leak is due to corrosion of the pipeline.”
Shell, however, state they never claimed the Bodo oil spill investigated by Amnesty was caused by sabotage.
When contacted by BattaBox, CEHRD Director and accuses the Nigerian government of “colluding because they are partners in the destruction of the environment.”
“People in Ogoniland, if you follow that report, are living like endangered fishes.”
